8 arrested in Vaughan shooting that injured two

Eight people have been charged in connection with a shooting in Vaughan that injured two people last year.

Police were called to the parking lot of Promenade Mall on Feb. 16, 2020 around 9 p.m. Three people had been shot at and two suffered gunshot wounds.

A 17-year-old male and a 30-year-old man were taken to hospital with injuries. Both have since fully recovered.

An investigation revealed one of the victims was sitting inside a vehicle while the other two were standing outside speaking to him when a masked suspect approached the vehicle and allegedly fired multiple shots.

Throughout the investigation, officers identified the alleged shooter and a number of other suspects.

Tormikeo Alphonso, 40, of Milton is facing three attempted murder charges, a conspiracy to commit murder and criminal harassment.

Three people, Mohamed El-Zahawi, 39, of Toronto, Filippo Genova, 23, of Toronto, and Omer Zahawi, 36, of Vaughan, are facing multiple charges including attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges.

Natasha Laing, 27, of Mississauga is facing an accessory to an indictable offence and three others are facing a conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (criminal harassment)

The investigation is still ongoing.
