Toronto and parts of the GTA are under a winter travel advisory as a second round of snow moves in.
Environment Canada had issued a snow squall advisory Wednesday evening for Toronto, Peel, and Halton regions, calling for snow squalls to develop over the west end of Lake Ontario Thursday morning and last through the night.
However, the snow squall advisory was changed to the travel advisory around 3 a.m.
The national weather agency said around five to 15 centimetres of snow are expected to fall in the area by Friday morning, with a steady snow Thursday evening.
Areas that will be impacted the most by snowfall will be downtown Toronto, southern Etobicoke, Mississauga, Milton, and Oakville.
That includes sections of the following highways:
- Highway 403
- Highway 407
- Highway 427
- Queen Elizabeth Way
- Gardiner Expressway
“Motorists should be prepared for possible winter driving conditions, especially along the QEW and portions of highway 403 and 407 on Thursday,” Environment Canada said in a release.
Lake-effect snow is expected to boost snow totals in the west end of the GTA.
The snow will start to fall in the morning but pick up in intensity during the afternoon and evening with lake effect snow hitting the west end of the GTA the hardest. Depending where you are, between 2 to 25 cm could fall by Friday morning. @adamstiles pic.twitter.com/1jL1nA5DwI

Most of the Golden Horseshoe area is expected to see anywhere from five to 10 centimetres, but localized totals of around 10 to 20 centimetres are possible between Burlington and Mississauga.
The snow is expected to taper off by Friday morning.
This comes on the heels of a winter storm that hit the GTA and much of southern Ontario Monday evening into Tuesday morning.
