Second teen charged in shooting of 14-year-old girl

Toronto police say they have made a second arrest in connection with the shooting of a 14-year-old girl earlier this month in the Jane and Finch area.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Feb. 12 in an apartment in the Jane Street and Strong Court area.

Police said a group of young people were in the apartment and at some point, a gun was fired, striking the girl in the head. The suspects and everyone else in the apartment fled the scene.

The victim survived the shooting but is left with life-altering injuries. She remains in hospital in stable condition.

Police arrested a 17-year-old boy on Feb. 16 and he is facing a slew of charges including aggravated assault, criminal negligence causing bodily harm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

On Monday, a 16-year-old Toronto boy surrendered to police at 31 division. He is facing nine charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition and two counts of fail to comply with Youth Criminal Justice Act sentence.

He appeared in court on Tuesday and police say the investigation is ongoing.

Neither suspect can be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
