A teenage girl who was shot in the head overnight in the Jane and Finch area is expected to survive.

Emergency crews were called to an apartment building on Stong Court just before 3 a.m. on Friday.

Police originally said the 14-year-old girl was alone in her apartment, but now say there were several people in the apartment including multiple young people and at least one adult.

It’s unclear how many shots were fired during the incident.

Paramedics rushed her to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said there were a number of male suspects were seen fleeing the area on foot, heading north from the building. No further description has been released.

Staff Superintendent Pauline Gray said they are currently speaking with some of the young people who were in the apartment at the time of the shooting and looking to speak with several people who fled the apartment.

This shooting is not linked to the other shooting incident that occurred early Friday morning on Songwood Drive near Islington and Finch Avenues.
