An off-duty Toronto police officer has been charged following an incident involving a sex worker in York Region.
Police say a woman was contacted by a man on March 31 who arranged to meet with her at a hotel for sexual services. When the suspect arrived, he was wearing a firearm and informed the woman that he was a police officer. The woman then demanded the suspect leave.
After she contacted police, investigators from York Region’s Human Trafficking Section identified the suspect and arrested him on April 2.
Travis Houston, 37, of Georgina has been charged with obtaining sexual services, possession of a dangerous weapon and mischief.
Toronto Police confirmed Houston has been with the service for two years and works out of 41 Division. He has been suspended with pay.
Police in York Region are interested in speaking with anyone else who may have information related to this investigation.
