Toronto police have released security camera images of a suspect being sought in connection to an anti-Asian hate crime.

Police were called to Midtown Plaza in the Sheppard Avenue East and Midland Avenue area on April 4, at around 7 p.m., for reports of an assault.

In a release, police said a 52-year-old man was ordering food at a restaurant when he was accosted by the suspect, who hurled an anti-Asian comment at the man.

Police say the situation escalated when the suspect suddenly punched the victim and fled.

The man was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries.
