Region of Peel employee dies of COVID-19

A veteran Region of Peel employee has died following complications related to COVID-19.
The employee was a woman in her 50s who had worked for the region for over 20 years. Out of privacy for her family, her identity and specific job have not been released.
Regional Chair Nano Iannicca said they were deeply saddened by this loss. “I’d like to express my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and staff that worked alongside this remarkable person,” read a statement from Iannicca.
Flags at all the regional buildings in Peel have been lowered out of respect and “to honour the employee’s exception work and dedication.”
Peel Region has remained one of the worst hit regions in the province. The area has reported 102,485 COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic and 735 deaths.
