A 14-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital following an accident in North York.
Police say just before 6:30 p.m. Friday, they were called to an area on Yonge Street near Kempford Boulevard, just south of Finch Avenue for reports a vehicle had struck a boy on a bicycle.
An eyewitness tells CityNews that the boy and his family were crossing the street when a southbound BMW travelling at a high rate of speed struck him.
Police say the boy was thrown approximately 20 feet by the force of the impact.
Paramedics say they transported the boy to a trauma centre with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the vehicle remained on the scene but gave no indication as to any charges they may be facing.
“Speed is always a concern of the Toronto police service, we speak about it on a regular basis,” said Duty Insp. Michael Williams. “Aggressive driving is one of our greatest concerns and one of the greatest contributors of accidents and people being injured.”
Editor’s note: This story corrects the age of the boy. Police initially said it was a 10-year-old before confirming the boy’s age as 14.
