Police have located the body of an eight-year-old boy who went missing in Lake Erie on Saturday.
OPP said police divers found the deceased child over 180 metres from the shore at around 2:35 p.m. Sunday.
Provincial police said they were called to an area near Turkey Point around 5:30 p.m. Saturday for a missing person’s report.
They said the boy had been swimming in the waters after abandoning a floating raft. He attempted to swim back to shore, but his family members had been unable to find him.
An OPP helicopter along with emergency rescue services out of Trenton, Ont., were brought in to assist in the search.
Police said the identity of the boy will not be released pending notification of next of kin.
Investigators said they will provide an update on Monday.
