The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in following a shooting incident in a Brampton neighbourhood Thursday afternoon.

Peel Regional Police say they were called to the Charolais Boulevard and McMurchy Avenue South area at around 4:10 p.m. for reports of sounds of gunshots inside a residential building.

Police said there was an interaction between a man and police.

Peel paramedics say a man has been transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Photos and video from the scene showed a large number of police vehicles outside a residential highrise.

Investigators are on the scene and ask anyone with information to contact them directly. Anonymous tips can also be left with Crime Stoppers.

The SIU is an arms-length provincial agency that investigates reports of death, injury, sexual assault or the discharge of a firearm involving a police officer.
