Province reporting 14 COVID-related deaths, less than 1,200 hospitalizations

Ontario is reporting a decrease in hospitalizations for the fourth consecutive day with fewer than 1,200 patients with COVID-19.

On Saturday, the province reported 1,191 people in hospital with the virus. The last time Ontario saw that number this low was in the beginning of January.

Half of the people admitted in the past 24 hours had the virus already, and the other half were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for COVID-19 after.

There are 329 people in ICU — 79 per cent of those patients were admitted with the virus, and the remaining 21 per cent tested positive for the virus after they were admitted.

It is important to note as well that not all hospitals report their data on weekends.

The health ministry is reporting 14 deaths on Saturday that occurred over the past 30 days. There were seven deaths over the past three days.

There are 2,244 new cases of COVID-19 being reported in Ontario — but health officials warn that number is not correct due to the province’s testing capacity limit.

There were 14,174 tests completed in the past day and 11.8 per cent of those tests came out positive.

According to provincial data, 92.5 per cent of Ontarians ages 12 and up have at least one dose of a vaccine, and 90.3 per cent are double vaccinated.
