Ontario reports 41 new COVID-19 deaths, hospitalizations below 1,100

Ontario is reporting 41 additional COVID-19 deaths on Thursday as hospitalizations continue a downward trend.

There are 1,066 people in hospital due to the virus while the number of patients in the ICU now sits at 302. Hospitalizations are down from 1,342 last week and from more than 1,106 the previous day.

According to the Ministry of Health, 74 per cent of patients admitted to the ICU were admitted for COVID-19 and 26 per cent were admitted for other reasons but have since tested positive.

Of the 41 new deaths, all occurred over the past 30 days and nine occurred in the previous three days.

Provincial health officials are reporting 2,404 new cases on Thursday. Officials warn that number is underreported following changes to the province’s testing policy.

As of Thursday, 92.5 per cent of Ontarians 12 and older have received at least one of the COVID-19 vaccine and 90.4 have received two doses.
