A Toronto man has been arrested several months after he was allegedly involved in a December hit-and-run that killed a 35-year-old man in Mississauga.

The incident happened at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 17, 2021, when 35-year-old Suresh Tharmakulasingam was crossing Dundas Street mid-block in a southward direction, west of Dixie Road.

As Tharmakulasingam reached the curb lane for eastbound traffic, police say he was struck by a 2008-2012 Black Ford Escape SUV.

It’s alleged the driver left the scene without stopping or providing any help to the victim. Tharmakulasingam was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition and died of his injuries a week later, on Dec. 24.

In association with Toronto police, investigators arrested and charged 38-year-old Luke Conklin of Toronto with failure to stop after an accident resulting in death. The vehicle believed to have been involved has been identified and recovered, police said in a news release.

Conklin is expected to appear in court on July 25.
