Teens arrested, York schools placed in hold and secure after threat made with fake guns

Two teens have been arrested after allegedly making threats with fake guns in Aurora, resulting in two York Region schools being placed in hold and secure.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Monday, York Regional Police received news about a video showing a teenager making a threat while holding what appeared to be a firearm.

Two schools were put on hold and secure due to the investigation.

Investigators say the police force quickly located two teenagers involved in making the video, and they were taken into custody. Replica firearms were discovered in their possession.

No injuries were reported.

Police say the two teens cannot be named due to their ages, and the video will not be shared publicly.

Elementary school shooting in Texas leaving many on high alert

Following the deadly and tragic shooting in Uvalde, Texas, that resulted in the deaths of 19 children and two teachers, investigators spanning the GTA have made arrests in connection with online threats and incidents involving schools.

Last week, Durham Regional Police Police identified and arrested one individual after online threats were directed toward Clarington Central Secondary School in Bowmanville. No one was injured.

That investigation followed last week’s incident in Scarborough, where several schools were forced into lockdown after a man, thought to be carrying a rifle, was shot and killed by Toronto police. It was later determined the man was carrying a pellet gun.

U.S. authorities have said the Uvalde shooter legally purchased two guns not long before the school attack: an AR-style rifle on May 17 and a second rifle on May 20. He had just turned 18, permitting him to buy the weapons under federal law.

Law enforcement officials have been harshly criticized for their actions in response to the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, and their conduct is being reviewed in separate investigations.
