The Toronto Blue Jays acquired left-handed pitcher Foster Griffin from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for right-hander Jonatan Bernal on Saturday.

Griffin was immediately optioned to triple-A Buffalo.

Griffin had a 12.46 ERA in five appearances for the Royals this season. With triple-A Omaha, the 26-year-old held a 4-0 record with a 1.93 ERA and 32 strikeouts.

The Blue Jays made two additional moves following the trade.

Right-hander Jeremy Beasley was called up from triple-A Buffalo and will be active for Saturday night’s game against the Royals.

The Blue Jays also designated right-hander Sergio Romo for assignment. The veteran pitcher signed with Toronto on June 29 after he was placed on unconditional release waivers by the Seattle Mariners.
