Bylaw probe underway into ‘makeshift nightclub’ at Brampton park where booze sold: City

A bylaw investigation into a massive party at a municipal park is underway after City of Brampton officials say there was a “makeshift nightclub” where alcohol was “illegally” sold to those in attendance.

According to a statement sent by officials in response to a complaint CityNews received, City of Brampton bylaw officers received multiple complaints beginning at around 8:40 p.m. on Sunday about noise coming from White Spruce Park on Heart Lake Road just west of Highway 410 and south of Sandalwood Parkway East.

The statement said a permit was issued by the City of Brampton for a family function of up to 400 people.

However, officials said bylaw enforcement officers found what was believed to be more than 500 people in attendance with vehicles “illegally” parked on the grass.

As part of their response, the statement said enforcement officers also found loud music along with “food and alcohol being illegally sold to attendees.”

It also said a larger fenced-in staging area was created “where people were lining up to enter a makeshift nightclub.”

“Security Services and City staff attended the location to assist. Given the number of attendees in the park, Peel Regional Police were notified and attended to assist and take the lead in managing the crowd,” the statement said.

A Peel Regional Police spokesperson told CityNews they were called to the park just after 10:45 p.m.

While officials said police officers managed to clear the park of those in attendance by 12:45 a.m. on Monday, charges weren’t laid by Peel Regional Police.

The statement said an investigation by the City of Brampton is still underway and that “by-law charges may be laid.”
