Man dead, woman seriously hurt in Oakville double shooting

A man has died and a woman is in hospital after a shooting in Oakville overnight. Police say at least two houses were also shot at. Carl Hanstke with the latest.

A man is dead and a woman is seriously injured after a shooting in Oakville on Friday morning.

Police responded to a call on Edward Leaver Trail, near Bronte Road and the QEW, around 1 a.m.

Officers located two victims in their 20s suffering from gunshot wounds. A man was pronounced dead at the scene and a woman was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the actual shooting appeared to have happened outside of a residence on Belt Lane. Police believe the suspects chased the male victim to an area outside of the residence where he was shot.

The deceased man was found at Merton Road and Edward Leaver Trail.

Police say several shots were fired and two stray bullets struck neighbouring houses. No other injuries were reported.

The suspect or suspects fled the scene in a light coloured SUV before police arrived.

Police tell CityNews they believe it is a targeted shooting and there is no safety risk to the general public.

There is no word on the relationship between the suspects and victims were.
