‘A blessing’: Costco coworkers win $1 million through OLG Lotto Max

By Lucas Casaletto

A group of three Costco coworkers from the GTA won $1 million through the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) Lotto Max draw.

The employees, Andre Nicholson of Vaughan, Aileen Mendoza of Toronto, and Rose Antonipillai of Woodbridge, said that before the shocking win, the three would take turns purchasing lottery tickets.

Nicholson said he was finishing a night shift at Costco when he checked their ticket using the OLG app.

“I saw $1 million but couldn’t believe it and scanned it several times,” Nicholson told the OLG. “Then [Antonipillai] and [Mendoza] scanned it to see for themselves.”

The winning ticket for the Oct. 11 Lotto Max draw was purchased at a Longo’s grocery store in Woodbridge.

Nicholson, meanwhile, said the three Costco employees are grateful for the win, which will be split up evenly at $333,000 each.

“This is a blessing,” Nicholson added. “We were speechless,” said Antonipillai.

As for what they plan on doing with the winnings, Mendoza said it’s time to pay some bills. Antonipillai said she would give some money to her children, while Nicholson plans to give back to others.

Lotto Max is $5 per play and draws take place Tuesdays and Fridays.
