Up to 5,000 homes and businesses remain without power on Tuesday morning in Midtown Toronto as crews work to fix a “complicated” equipment issue.
Many were left in the dark just before 9:30 p.m. Monday after an underground equipment failure that required “urgent repairs,” according to Toronto Hydro.
The power outage is impacting the area roughly bounded by Glencairn Avenue south to St. Clair Avenue, and Bathurst Street east to Mount Pleasant Road.
Toronto Hydro says crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to fix the damaged equipment.
Crews made progress overnight & remain on site making repairs to damaged underground equipment. While crews are working as quickly & safely as possible, the repairs are complicated & take time to complete. As a result, customers should expect to be without power into today.

“The repairs are complicated and take time to complete,” reads the latest update. “As a result, customers should expect to be without power into today.”
The power was initially expected to be restored by noon Tuesday but the latest information on Toronto Hydro’s site shows the restoration time as 3 p.m.
Both the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) have said none of their schools in the area are impacted by the outage.
