No yolk: 1 person charged in John Tory egging incident

By Lucas Casaletto

A Toronto resident behind the alleged egging of John Tory’s office window has been charged with mischief.

The incident made headlines on February 17, Tory’s last day in office before he resigned. Video captured someone throwing multiple eggs at Tory’s office window as he read a newspaper.

Toronto police confirm with CityNews the suspect was charged with mischief under $5,000 and appeared in court on Thursday.

The person who tossed the eggs is reportedly a housing advocate who was among the protesters physically removed from city hall during a February budget session.

Tory had announced he would resign after admitting to an “inappropriate relationship” with a former staffer.

Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie has since taken over Tory’s duties on an interim basis but confirmed won’t be running to replace him.
