Fire crews extinguish ‘toxic’ blaze on site of roofing company near Ashbridges Bay

Fire crews battled a toxic blaze at a roofing manufacturing company in the area near Ashbridges Bay Wednesday night.

Fire officials say more than 17 apparatus were needed after an asphalt holding tank on the exterior of a building at CanRoof Corporation on Commissioners Street caught fire just after 7 p.m.

Smoke from the burning material made the air in the area “toxic,” according to officials, however, no injuries were reported.

According to the company’s website, CanRoof is a global leader in the manufacture and supply of residential and commercial roofing products, waterproofing, insulation systems and accessories.
