1 man dead after house fire in Markham

One man has died in a house fire in Markham on Monday afternoon.

York police were called to the home on Reesor Road, north of Steels Avenue just after 3 p.m. and found the residence engulfed in flames.

The fire was brought under control and the body of an adult male was discovered. Two other adults managed to escape unharmed.

The Ontario Fire Marshall has been called in to investigate the circumstances of the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown.

“Our investigators will be working along with fire marshal determine if there’s any criminality involved in this incident … to piece together the sequence of events that led up to this fire occurring and sadly, the death of that adult,” said YRP Sgt. Andy Pattenden.
