Woman critically injured in Mississauga hit-and-run, police searching for driver

Police are searching for the driver after a woman was critically injured following a hit-and-run in Mississauga overnight. Erica Natividad has the latest from the scene.

A woman suffered life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident in Mississauga overnight.

Peel Regional Police officers were called to the Bristol Road West and Loonlake Avenue area just after midnight.

Investigators arrived at the scene and located a female pedestrian who had been hit by a car. She was transported to a trauma centre as a result of her injuries.

Peel Paramedics tells 680 NewsRadio that the woman is in critical condition, adding that a passerby phoned police.

Officers confirmed that the woman, said to be in her 20s, was crossing Bristol Road West on a green light when she was hit. The driver fled the scene, continuing eastbound.

“As she was approximately halfway through that intersection on the green light, the suspect vehicle, which was travelling eastbound on Bristol Road, entered the intersection on a red light and struck the pedestrian on the road,” Peel Regional Police Const. Richard Chin told CityNews.

Collision captured on home surveillance camera

The incident was captured on a nearby resident’s home security camera, which shows the woman crossing the street and the suspect vehicle approaching at a high speed.

“I think it was an SUV. It hit her very hard,” the homeowner said in an interview with 680 NewsRadio.

Police say they are looking for a black Honda SUV which will have visible front end damage as a result of the crash.

“If you are a body shop or some kind of repair facility and you find a dark-coloured car with unusual damage… please reach out to our officers,” Const. Chin said. “A reasonable person would know that they struck this individual.”

Anyone with information or additional footage is asked to come forward.
