Multiple pedestrians struck by vehicle in downtown Toronto

Two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle in downtown Toronto on Monday morning, police said.

Authorities were called to the River Street and Gerrard Street area in Regent Park just before 7 a.m. for initial reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

It was later determined that a second pedestrian was also struck in the area.

Police said a woman was transported to a hospital with serious and possibly life-threatening injuries, while a male pedestrian, reportedly in his 50s, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver remained at the scene.

Toronto Transportation said Gerrard Street is closed between River Street and Saint Matthews Road for the investigation.
