Priority Bus Lanes Becoming a Reality in Scarborough

Some drivers are literally seeing red in Scarborough.
City crews have begun painting and installing 8.5km of red priority bus lanes along the Eglinton East corridor.
TTC spokesperson Stuart Green says crews began painting on Tuesday and are working from east to west along the corridor.
The lanes will go into service on October 11th, running along Eglinton Ave. East from Brimley Rd. to Kingston Rd, Kingston Rd from Eglinton East to Morningside Ave., and Morningside Ave. from Kingston Rd to the University of Toronto – Scarborough campus.
The lanes will be reserved for buses and bicycles 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will be identified using both signage and the red surface paint.

It’s one of six priority bus lane projects expedited by the Toronto Transit Commission.
On July 14th, the TTC Board approved a report to fast-track the installation of bus-only lanes and other service-enhancing measures along five of its busiest corridors. A sixth was subsequently added.
The six corridors, which had a combined pre-pandemic ridership of approximately 220,000 passengers per weekday, are listed below:
- Eglinton Avenue East/Kingston Road/Morningside Avenue from the intersection of Eglinton Avenue East & Brimley Rd to the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus
- Jane Street from Eglinton Avenue West to Steeles Avenue West
- Dufferin Street from Dufferin Gate to Wilson Avenue
- Steeles Avenue West from Yonge Street to Pioneer Village Subway Station
- Finch Avenue East from Yonge Street to McCowan Road
- Lawrence East (East of Victoria Park to Rouge Hills Drive)
Green says installation dates have not yet been set for the other five fast-tracked corridors.
