Ontario investing $10 million for green transit initiative

By News staff

The Ontario government is investing $10 million over four years to make transit in the province greener.

As part of the province’s Climate Change Strategy, the money will be allocated to the Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium to develop “next-generation transportation technologies” – in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption.

Premier Kathleen Wynne Wynne and Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca made the announcement in Brampton on Monday.

The consortium will also be partnering with Brampton Transit to lead a large-scale trial of zero-emission buses by seven transit agencies.

“Investing in the development of advanced transportation technologies is part of our four-part economic plan to create jobs and growth,” Wynne said in a statement.
