The province’s Special Investigation’s Unit (SIU) is investigating after a 26-year-old man died following a police-involved shooting in a Brampton neighbourhood, Peel police said Monday.

Emergency crews were called to the Sawston Circle and Edenbrook Hill Drive area, near Bovaird Drive and Chinguacousy Drive, at around 5:20 p.m. for a report of a domestic incident.

Peel police Const. Bancroft Wright said officers entered a residence and there was an interaction with one of the occupants of the house.

In a statement, the SIU said two officers deployed energy weapons at the man.

One of the officer’s gun was then discharged multiple times, the SIU said. The man was struck and he died at the scene.

The SIU is asking anyone with information to contact them.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
