Woman seriously injured in hit-and-run at Dundas and Sherbourne

By News staff

A woman is in critical condition after a hit-and-run in downtown Toronto.

Emergency crews were called to the Dundas Street East and Sherbourne Street area just after 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Toronto police say the driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene.

It is not clear if the woman was walking when she was struck or if she was already lying on the ground.

A witness told 680 NEWS she saw the woman lying on the road on Dundas when an eastbound SUV ran over her. The witness said the woman tried to get up before the vehicle hit her. Police have not confirmed these details.

The incident happened at the same intersection where a 73-year-old man was killed after he was struck by a vehicle two weeks ago. A 49-year-old man was also hit but survived. In that case, the driver has been charged with multiple offences including driving without a licence.
