Man wanted in Toronto rent fraud scam also wanted in Vancouver

By News Staff

A man who allegedly collected rent deposits on apartments he didn’t own is wanted by police in Toronto and Vancouver.

The man, police allege, rents condo units in Toronto for very short time periods, through services like Airbnb. He then advertises them on Craigslist and other websites, claiming to be the landlord.

He would often use his real name, police say, but sometimes used aliases.

He would allegedly collect deposits from prospective tenants and then “disappear,” according to police.

Robert Charles Reid, 58, is wanted for fraud. He is also known to use the aliases Lee Walder and Brad Lawson.

Earlier this year, a CBC article said a man with the same name and photograph committed a similar crime in Vancouver.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
