2nd suspect charged in Anthony Smith murder appears in court

TORONTO – A Toronto man appeared in court on Friday morning charged with first-degree murder in the death of 21-year-old Anthony Smith.

Smith, 21, died in hospital after he was shot at King and Portland streets in downtown Toronto on March 28.

Hanad Mohamed, 23, of Toronto, was arrested last week in Fort McMurray, Alta.

His case has been put over until June 21.

In April, a 23-year-old man was also charged with first-degree murder.

Smith’s murder has received extra attention because of a photo of Mayor Rob Ford posing with the victim before his death circulated in the media.

Ford has denied his picture with smith indicates he has ties with drug dealers, saying he takes pictures with everyone.
