Private investigation into Sherman murders complete, police still looking for tips

The murder investigation of Toronto billionaires Honey and Barry Sherman remains ongoing as a private investigation wraps up. As Adrian Ghobrial reports, police say they are still looking for tips.

Toronto police say the private investigation into the murders of Honey and Barry Sherman has been completed, but the police investigation remains ongoing.

Homicide Insp. Hank Idsinga say they received over 340 tips from the private investigators and are now asking those who share information to resubmit those tips directly to Toronto Police’s homicide unit.

They have set up an email, shermantips@torontopolice.on.ca, for those tips to be shared.

Idsinga did not provide any details related to the ongoing investigation, including whether they had determined a motive or whether there were any persons of interests.

“Solving this case has always been a top priority for Toronto Police,” said Idsinga.

When asked what the biggest challenge in solving the Sherman homicides, Idsinga said the “sheer volume of tips” has made solving this crime difficult, adding it takes time to decipher what is a solid tip and what isn’t.

Sunday marked two years since the billionaire couple was found dead in their North York mansion.

Police initially treated the scene as a murder-suicide but autopsy results showed the couple died from “ligature neck compression.” A month later police said they were treating the deaths as a double homicide.

No arrests have been made.

The Sherman family is still offering a $10 million reward for information leading to the arrest of someone responsible for the Sherman murders.
