Homicide unit investigating after man’s body found on Humber West Trail

Toronto police’s homicide unit is investigating after a man’s body was found on the Humber West Trail in Etobicoke on Monday morning.

Officials were called to the Humber West Trail near Highway 27 just after 7 a.m.

Police said a jogger found the victim with signs of trauma on a footpath under the Highway 27 bridge near Humber College Boulevard. Paramedics were called to the scene but were not able to revive him.

No weapon was found at the scene.

On Tuesday, police identified the victim as Rampreet (Peter) Singh, who is in his late 30s. Police said he had been living under a bridge.

Police said the area is heavily travelled by pedestrians and bicyclists, and are trying to determine if anyone saw Singh alive in the early morning hours of Monday.

“Officers are appealing to the public if they saw or heard anything out of the ordinary in that area between midnight and 7 a.m. to contact the Homicide Squad immediately,” police said in a release.

A command post will be set up in the area on Tuesday.

On Monday, Det. Stephen Henkel said there were parties happening in the area overnight and is asking anyone with information to come forward.

Singh is the city’s 48th homicide of the year.
