Insignia air fryers, air fryer oven recalled in Canada due to potential fire threat

A heads up to air fryer users in Canada as two Insignia products are being recalled due to a fire risk.

The Ontario Fire Marshal tweeted that the Insignia Air Fryers and the Air Fryer Oven are named in the recall.

The Canadian government urges anyone with these products to “immediately stop using the recalled air fryers and air fryer oven and return the product for a store credit.”

“This recall involves the Insignia™ Digital Air Fryers, Insignia™ Analog Air Fryers and Insignia™ Digital Air Fryer Oven. The air fryers and air fryer oven have cooking chamber capacities ranging from 3.4 to 10 quarts (3.9 to 11.4 litres), and plastic or plastic and stainless steel bodies in black and stainless steel finish,” the Government of Canada noted in a news release.

Just over 138,000 air fryer units of the affected product were sold in Canada, and over 634,000 were sold in the United States. The affected air fryers were sold from November 2018 and April 2022.

As of March 25, the company identified 36 reports of incidents, including one report of a minor injury in Canada. In the U.S., these companies identified 68 reports of incidents, including one report of minor injury.

The Ontario Fire Marshal says the listed products are at risk of overheating, posing a potential burn and fire hazard.

The recalled product was sold in Canada by Best Buy and online through eBay and Amazon Canada. The Government of Canada says that products purchased from Best Buy can be returned for a refund in the form of a credit for use in-store only.

The government notes that Best Buy Canada is contacting all known purchasers directly to arrange returns and provide pre-paid shipping boxes, labels, and return instructions.
