Barrie police officer stabbed in face during crisis call
A 20-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder after a Barrie police officer was stabbed in the face while responding to a call for a person in crisis on Sunday.
Police, and Simcoe paramedics, were called to an apartment complex on Duckworth Street in Barrie just after 10 p.m.
“Upon arrival, police gained access to the apartment and cautiously approached the 20-year-old female occupant,” Barrie police explained in a release. “As they were assisting her to her feet, she lunged at one of the officers and stabbed her in the face.”

The officer, who has been with the force since 2018, was taken to a local hospital. She was treated at hospital for a serious injury and has since been released.
In addition to attempted murder, the accused, who has not been named, is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
“We are thankful that she will make a full recovery, but we know the long-term impacts of this incident and injury will have on the officer involved, and our entire Service,” said Barrie Police Chief Rich Johnston.
