The rise of Tequila: Here’s what alcohol Ontarians were drinking in 2023

Tequila may not be the answer, but it’s worth a shot.

The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) released its “What Ontarians Were Drinking in 2023” list with particular trends across regions.

It appears tequila was the most popular alcohol of choice, ranking first in five of six Ontario regions, including the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Ottawa was the only part of the province that turned almost entirely away from tequila this year. Here are the full results.

North Ontario (Barrie, Sudbury, Muskoka, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay and North Bay)

East Ontario (Durham East-West, Kingston and Peterborough)

West Ontario (Oakville, Toronto West, Mississauga West-East, Hamilton, Burlington, Dufferin and Peel)

Ottawa (Central East and West)

GTA (Toronto Core, Toronto North, Scarborough East-North, North York, Woodbridge, Markham and York Region)

South Western (Windsor, London West-East, Sarnia, Kitchener, Waterloo, Niagara, Brantford, Cambridge and Guelph)

Data represents top growth in product categories among regions, and the LCBO says information pertains from Nov. 6, 2022, to Nov. 4, 2023.
