Man, 69, dead after 2-vehicle crash in city’s west end

A 69-year-old man has died following a two-vehicle collision in the Rogers Road and Bicknell Avenue area on Sunday afternoon.

Officers were called to the area in York shortly before 1 p.m. for two vehicles involved in a crash.

Police said the driver of a gray four-door Audi A4 was travelling westbound on Rogers Road, approaching Bicknell Avenue, while the driver of a black Smart Car was travelling eastbound on Rogers Road.

The Smart Car’s driver turned left onto northbound Bicknell Avenue and was struck by the Audi. The driver of the Smart Car, a 69-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

The driver of the Audi remained on the scene and was treated for minor injuries.

Traffic delays and road closures carried into the afternoon as drivers were encouraged to take alternate routes.
