OPP vehicle transporting Premier Ford involved in collision, driver charged

An OPP vehicle transporting Premier Doug Ford was involved in a collision on Wednesday.

The collision happened just before 1 p.m. on Highway 401 near Brock Road in Pickering as Ford was coming back from an announcement at Darlington Nuclear Generating Station. The vehicle got “sideswiped,” Ford said.

Ford’s office tells CityNews that the Premier, staff, and the OPP officers in the vehicle were uninjured.

Two occupants of the other vehicle were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver, an 18-year-old from Oshawa, has been charged with dangerous driving.

Ford says he is all right, but the vehicle he was travelling in got “hammered” when it was hit by another car Wednesday on Highway 401.

“We were just driving straight, next thing you know, you got hammered, just hammered,” he said after taking some questions at the legislature about a virtual meeting he had with all of the premiers on Canada-U.S. relations.
