Toronto mother of three killed in her East York home

An East York neighborhood is in shock after learning one of their neighbors was killed in what appears to be break-and-enter.

Police were called to a home on Torrens Avenue between Broadview and Pape avenues around 2:15 a.m. on Saturday.

They found the lifeless body of a woman suffering from obvious signs of trauma in one of the bedrooms. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman has been identified as 41-year-old Rhoderie Estrada, a mother of three children who many in the neighbourhood described as a wonderful neighbor.

“Good neighbours, good family, quiet family,” said neighbour Paul Kassiopoulos. “She had three young girls and I’m shocked.”

Police believe the murder was committed sometime between 10:30 p.m. Friday night and early Saturday morning.

“Based on the information at this time, we are alleging an unknown person entered the dwelling via the side window and subsequently caused the death of Ms. Estrada” said Detective Sergeant Mike Carbone with Toronto Police’s Homicide Squad.

An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death is scheduled for Sunday.
