Brampton vaccine clinic to open for Black, African and Caribbean residents

Peel Public Health is opening up a pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Bramalea Civic Centre starting this weekend.

Health officials announced Tuesday the pop-up is dedicated to members of the Black, African and Caribbean communities who are 18 and over and live in Brampton and Malton.

It opens on Saturday and runs through June 11th. The PHU says the environment involves the inclusion of Black staff and volunteers, including vaccinators, and will also prominently feature culturally relevant music.

“We understand many people from the Black, African and Caribbean communities are hesitant and even resistant to being vaccinated,” said Angela Carter, Executive Director, Roots Community Services.

“Our role is to provide factual information to help community members make informed decisions to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. If they choose the vaccine, we want to make it as easy as possible for them to get the shot.”

The clinic has a capacity of about 14,000 doses. Appointments are required and walk-ins will not be accepted.

Peel Region continues to expand on its vaccination strategy after announcing a 32-hour vaccination marathon that will run in Mississauga this coming weekend.

Health officials say the goal is to administer more than 7,600 vaccine doses including 5,000 during the period of the overnight hours.

Anyone over the age of 18 can start booking appointments as of today on Peel Region’s vaccine portal.
