Woman, 85, found dead in Georgina house fire was murdered: York Region police

A woman found dead after a fire in Georgina was the victim of a homicide, police in York Region say.

Just after 5 a.m. on Jan. 15, emergency crews were called to a home on Miami Drive near Lake Drive South for a report of a house fire.

Once the fire was put out, an 85-year-old woman was found dead inside the home. Police have since identified the homeowner as Sandy Gauthier.

Investigators say an autopsy revealed she was murdered.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area and who has not yet spoken to police to contact them. They are also looking for any surveillance or dash-cam footage from the area.
