Bombardier aerospace workers reject tentative deal, strike continues in Toronto

Bombardier aerospace workers have rejected a tentative deal that was reached in the week-long strike Tuesday morning.

Unifor confirmed its members in the Toronto area had voted to reject the agreement so strike action will continue at the company’s Aircraft Assembly Centre at Pearson International Airport and pre-flight operations facility at Waterloo Regional Airport.

Bombardier said in a statement to CityNews they were disappointed that employees have chosen not to ratify the company’s proposal.

“We will take the necessary time to consider our next steps,” read their statement.

Approximately 1,350 aircraft assembly workers walked off the job on June 23 at the company’s aircraft manufacturing facility based at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.

The aerospace giant officially opened its new global business jet production facility at Pearson two months ago after airfield operations at the Downsview airport site ended this year ahead of a massive, multi-decade redevelopment initiative.
