Youths injured after police car and ATV crash in North York: SIU

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after two youths were injured in a collision involving an ATV and a police cruiser in North York.

Toronto Police Service officers were called to Jane Street and Giltspur Drive near Sheppard Avenue West just after 10 p.m. Monday.

The SIU confirmed that a police cruiser became involved in a collision with the ATV. A 13-year-old, who was operating the ATV at the time of the crash, had to be extricated from the vehicle.

A 12-year-old passenger of the ATV fled the scene but was located shortly after. Both youths were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Their injuries aren’t considered serious.

Toronto Fire Services tells CityNews crews were called to the scene on Monday night to help a person stuck underneath a vehicle. TFS raised the police cruiser and removed the person.

TFS couldn’t confirm how the person got stuck underneath the car, and it’s unknown how the initial crash occurred.

Two investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. 

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
