Fire breaks out at Pickering townhouse under construction

By News Staff

No injuries have been reported after fire broke out at a townhouse complex under construction overnight in Pickering.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near Taunton Road and Sideline 26 around 3:30 a.m. on Friday.

Fire officials said one unit was fully involved when crews arrived on scene. That fire then spread to a second unit.

“Crews did a great job in putting out the fire and stopping it just at the two units involved,” Acting Platoon Chief Tim Jeffery said.

“The house was under construction so, lucky for our situation, we had no rescue involved. There was no one inside the house. It was a new build and we were able to put the fire out quite quickly.”

Fire officials said a tanker truck had to be brought in from Ajax to help crews battle the blaze, as water supply in the area is problematic.

There has been no word on how the fire started.
