DNA Tests Show John Mark Karr Didn’t Kill JonBenet Ramsey

DNA tests from the man who implicated himself in the killing don’t match and it now appears that the main suspect in the case won’t be facing any murder, assault or kidnapping charges at all.

Authorities took samples of Karr’s hair and saliva when he arrived in Boulder, Colorado last week. But the samples didn’t match the preserved evidence found on the little girl, virtually ruling Karr out as the culprit.

Ramsey’s body was discovered in her parents’ basement on Boxing Day 1996. She’d been strangled to death and a ransom note was found at the scene.

When Karr was arrested last month in Thailand, he hinted he planned to make money from the couple by kidnapping the child, but the scheme went wrong and she died before he could get her out of the house.

He later amended that admission to say he was ‘there’ when the murder took place.

But Karr’s story didn’t add up in many details – including a telltale admission that he picked up JonBenet as she came out of school. Schools were closed for the holiday when the crime took place.

The now former suspect’s family also insisted he was with them that Christmas and wasn’t anywhere near Colorado.

Karr was known to be fascinated with the case and many had speculated his ‘confession’ was simply a way for him to become inextricably linked to it, a goal he sadly accomplished.

The former schoolteacher still faces child pornography charges in Petaluma, California, and it’s expected he’ll be taken back there for trial. He fled the jurisdiction in 2001 before he could face justice.

In the meantime, investigators in Ramsey’s home state are back to square one in the murder probe. Almost a full decade later, the case remains unsolved and with the discrediting of Karr, there are no real suspects.
