Authorities are trying to track down 23-year-old Ahmed Moalin-Mohammed, who’s facing attempted murder and aggravated assault charges after four people were injured in a shooting in London over the Thanksgiving weekend. Two of the victims were innocent bystanders.
Some politicians have proposed denying bail to people facing gun-related offences and the federal Conservatives have proposed mandatory minimum sentences for those found guilty of gun crimes, but those proposals didn’t stop an alleged gunman from breaching his bail conditions.
London’s Chief of Police Murray Faulkner expressed his anger over the fact that this suspect was able to slip through the cracks and that it could happen again.
“When an individual is accused of shooting four people with a stolen handgun – so even though maybe this person has no criminal record, he’s in possession of a stolen handgun already, we need to have an inmate like that kept in custody,” he said.
Toronto Police have been trying to find Mohammed since Monday, when he disappeared from his city address on Mabelle Avenue. The suspect’s bail conditions required him to live at this address and abide by a curfew.
Mohammed was supposed to appear before a London judge Thursday.
He’s described as:
- Brown, Somalian
- 6’4″, 170 lbs.,
- Brown eyes and short black hair
He was last seen wearing black shoes, a blue zippered sweatshirt and dark pants.
If you spot him, call 911, or police at (416) 808-2200. You can also call Crime Stoppers at (416) 222-TIPS.
