This article is more than 5 years old.
Just one day after a teenage boy was found behind a Mississauga school, an autopsy was performed on his body. Peel Police expect to have the results next week.
They’re one step closer. They now have his name. Evan Popoola was discovered at the rear of St Jude’s Separate School on NahaniWay in the Eglinton and Hurontario area around 6:30pm Friday.
Residents of the area are shocked by the recent violence.
“It’s a family park. People are playing tennis, there’s a library there, kids go swimming. You know, it’s very quiet,” explained Sandra Burgess.
It’s still not clear who killed him or why. Cops do have a pretty good idea how the 15-year-old died, but are waiting for an examination to confirm their suspicions.
“Our officers located a15-year-old victim suffering from an undisclosed number of gunshot wounds,” explained Cst. JP Valade of Peel Regional Police.
When paramedics arrived on scene, the boy did not have any vital signs.
“He was rushed to an area hospital and subsequently died of his injuries,” Valade continued.
Popoola was pronounced dead by trauma physicians.
A single suspect was seen fleeing the area heading south. He’s described as being of unknown racial origin, having a thin build and was wearing shorts.
Officers swarmed the area immediately after the murder, but so far have come up empty in trying to find him.
They’re appealing for witnesses. If you saw or heard anything, call (905) 453-3311, ext 3205.
It’s Peel’s 19th murder of the year – a sad record for the region.
