StreetBeat – May 1 – 91-Yr.-Old Passenger Dies In Crash

A 91-year-old woman was killed in a single car crash Friday. She was critically injured around 1:10pm when the car she was riding in went out of control near St. Clair and Avenue Rd. The vehicle mounted another car and came to a stop in a twisted crunch of metal, leaving the victim with severe injuries. She wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Traffic Services investigators are trying to figure out if the 39-year-old driver was speeding, had a seizure or experienced some other medical issue.
Dangerous Curves
A vehicle flipped just before 3am Friday on the westbound ramp from the Gardiner Expressway to the northbound Highway 427. The area, which is under construction, has been a trouble spot for motorists.
All three people in the car were okay. There’s no word yet on whether charges will be laid, and the ramp has been reopened.
Five-Vehicle Pileup On Eastbound Gardiner
Three people suffered minor injuries after several cars crashed in a pileup on the eastbound Gardiner Expressway near Kipling Ave. It occurred at about midnight, and a Brinks armoured truck was among the vehicles involved. Police are still investigating the cause.
