TORONTO, Ont. – Nathan Phillips Square is about to get a facelift.
Construction for Toronto’s hip new square is slated to begin on Friday.
According to officials, the two year, $42.7-million revitalization project will update the original 1965 vision.
Toronto Chief Corporate Officer, David Bowes, told the Toronto Sun they will be creating a sharper, modernized square. It will include a new permanent theatre stage, a two-level restaurant and a skate pavilion. Two-hundred new trees will also be added to the perimeter.
Mayor David Miller and Councillor Kyle Rae will officially kick off construction, which will be completed in phases.
The new improved square is expected to be ready by mid-to-late 2012.
