Demolition Begins After Wall Collapse

Part of Yonge St. at Gould remains closed Saturday as crews work to repair the damage from a brick wall collapse Friday afternoon.
No one was hurt when the façade of Sushi Tatami came crashing down around 12:30 p.m. on Friday. The restaurant and neighbouring salad King were quickly evacuated and dogs brought in to search through the rubble.
“Me and my coworker, we just sat down, like five minutes we were in the restaurant and all of a sudden the building collapsed and it was all dusty in the restaurant,” Chris Sidney told CityNews.Ca
Crews are now working to ensure the Yonge St. side of the building is safe. Toronto Fire Services reported that renovations of a doorway were taking place at the time of the collapse and may have created a domino affect of falling brick.
TTC service in the area is being diverted. The closure may last through the remainder of the weekend.
