Gardiner Closed For Spring Revamp

Getting in and out of the downtown core will be a challenge this weekend, with drivers having to contend with another closure of the Gardiner Expressway.

Bright and early Saturday morning at 4am, the highway closed in both directions from the Humber River to the DVP. It is scheduled to reopen 5am Monday morning.

The eastbound express lanes of the Gardiner will be closed from Kipling Ave. to Royal York Rd. from 2am Saturday until 12am Sunday. In addition, westbound lanes from Islington to Kipling Ave will be closed Sunday from 6am to 4 pm.

The Gardiner was kept open Thursday night after scheduled road resurfacing work was scrapped due to rain. This work is now slated for Sunday.

Crews will be busy clearing catchbasins; repairing the Jameson bridge; maintaining pavement, signs, guiderails, and closed circuit television cameras; and removing litter.

Unfortunately, we haven’t seen the last of the scheduled closures this summer, or so called “construction season.” For the full list of closures, head to the city of Toronto’s web site.
